Our Second Store!! Yay...

Mystic Mermaid cuI am so happy to say that our cards and prints can now be found at Mermaid Cove Cottage in Palm Harbor. It was great to meet Susan and Melissa there and show them my work. Since one of my latest finished drawings was a mermaid it seemed only right that I would take her to this store along with other prints and cards! I am looking forward to a long and lasting relationship at the cove!

If you would like to carry our prints and cards just contact us at kate@katekreates.net and we will be happy to get in touch with all the information.

My youngest grandchildren are twins and they (a boy and a girl) just turned 10. Double digits! It's astounding to me how fast the time goes ...the older I get the faster it goes! I know this is such a cliche...been said so many times. It bears repeating only if it helps to remind me that every single moment is sooo precious! Okay enough melodrama...lets move on to the fun part of the birthday. Since their birthday is so close to Christmas my daughter and I usually determine a present for the twindalins (as Lisa likes to call them) before Christmas. It just makes life easier that way. But for some reason that did not happen this year. What also makes this year different is the fact that both boy and girl have decided that they would like to have separate parties. This is a first! No big party in the park and invite the whole grade level...well practically the grade!!! Instead they wanted theme parties at specialty places and invite their special friends. Much pricier! So Tom and I decided the best gift we could give would be to "chip in" on the parties to help make them possible. This was all settled and we knew the kids would understand and appreciate the gift but I kept having a nagging feeling that I wanted to do something else. But what??? Then it Katie kcame to me!! Day before yesterday...I decided to draw their initials....both K...with my own style of doodling and add their names to personalize!!! First I blocked out the large letter and then I wrote their name below in my best handwriting. If you are going to try this, and want to matte it, make sure it fits inside the matte opening before going any further (I made the mistake of putting the name too low to work in the matte at first :( ). After this I just doodled inside the large letter. When the doodling was all finished ...I drew into the name a little more to emphasize the up and down lines of the names...just to darken them a little. I wanted to make them fun for the kids so I tried to keep the doodles light and not serious if that makes sense. Anyway this is how they both turned out... K for Keagan blog K for Katie blog Both Katie and Keagan seemed to like their letters very much...I am so glad I was able to finish them in time. I am thinking of offering an alphabet like this in my Etsy shop that could be personalized this way. Let me know what you think. At least the K is already complete and ready for all those Kates and Kevins and Karls and Kathys and Keagans and Katies and......and....

Where we were...

Posted by 1 in Where to Find KateKreates
This has been a year of learning for us! Tom and I have always loved going to markets and arts and crafts shows of all kinds. I honestly never really thought I would be one of the venders selling at one of them. First of all I am way too shy to think about hawking my art at such a place where people can just walk by .....and ....gasp! .....ignore you!!!! The whole idea is so foreign to my personality ....but somehow I knew in my heart that if I really wanted this dream of my own business of making my art ....my way ....I had to do this ...so I did!Holiday Hoopla 12-13-14I went to the first market back in the spring. My daughter went with me and that was a big help. I didn't sell many cards but people seemed to like them and I was really encouraged. Then I went to another...this time I was set up alone but my daughter and granddaughter were nearby in their own canopy. Again, I didn't sell much but people seemed to like what I had to offer. Tom came with me to the next market which was in Tampa. I now had prints and and belonged to a local Etsy group (they actually sponsored the market) and we sold a lot!!! I was overjoyed. I started to learn about my target audience. That the right people had to see what I had and then I would sell my product! We broke our canopy that day and we couldn't even take charge cards because I didn't have it set up correctly. But it was a great day!!! We were exhausted when we got home. It's the end of the year and we have done many markets since then including Shopapalooza, Craft and Drafts, Small  Business Saturday, St. Pete Indie Market and Holiday Hoopla and I have learned that I so enjoy them; I love talking to the customers about everything! Other vendors are some of the nicest people...they always seem to want to help no matter what the problem. We are still learning which are the best markets for us to attend but we always take something away with us. We are together having a wonderful time and looking forward to the year ahead and what it will bring!!! Tell me about what you are looking forward to in the new year...I would love to hear about your dreams as well!!!
